The GOP: Divorced From Reality? Bill Maher Thinks So....

The GOP: Divorced From Reality

Friday, April 24, 2009
Bill Maher, Los Angeles Times

If conservatives don't want to be seen as bitter people who cling to their guns and religion and anti-immigrant sentiments, they should stop being bitter and clinging to their guns, religion and anti-immigrant sentiments.

It's been a week now, and I still don't know what those "tea bag" protests were about. I saw signs protesting abortion, illegal immigrants, the bank bailout and that gay guy who's going to win "American Idol." But it wasn't tax day that made them crazy; it was election day. Because that's when Republicans became what they fear most: a minority.

The conservative base is absolutely apoplectic because, because ... well, nobody knows. They're mad as hell, and they're not going to take it anymore. Even though they're not quite sure what "it" is. But they know they're fed up with "it," and that "it" has got to stop.

Here are the big issues for normal people: the war, the economy, the environment, mending fences with our enemies and allies, and the rule of law.

  1. Where is respect for the rule of law?? Governments are taking over private enterprise. They are declaring legal, binding contracts null and void. Etc., Etc., Etc. I see no respect for the rule of law.

  2. Now why won't fox news show President Obama's press conference? http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/

BTW, my uncle died so I am back now to read and respond.

  3. I heard Obama didn't take one question from FNC. I'm wondering what took him so long to start ignoring them. Shepard Smith is their only decent anchor. MSNBC isn't nonpartisan but at least they aren't bashing him 24/7. The other day on Fox and Friends Gretchen says "well to be fair and balanced--" and Glen Beck cut her off and continued bashing Barack. (Funny Google Chrome corrected my spelling of Obama from a lower case "o")

  4. Bill Maher is probably the most sad and hateful commentator in America. I think he deserves to be in the same category as Rush Limbaugh, because both are mean and bitter fools who try and shove thier ideas down our throats. The fact that the media gives Maher a soap box to peddle his hate speach should tell us what the Media is all about.

I recently sat in a meeting with 15 members of the GOP in my area to talk about are status and direction. 8 of the 15 including me actually voted for Obama, because we feel that was the best direction for the country. Does that mean we will never vote Republican again? Not at all.

I remember back when Bush won in 2004, everyone was saying this is the end of the Democrats as we know it. Turns out it was. Obama proves every day that he is right smack dab in the middle, not to the left as Kerry or Gore would have been.

CNN, MSNBC, ABC, NBC, CBS, and every newspaper in America are so far to the left that it's impossible to trust what they say. Fox just provides a counter argument to the 80% of media that pretends to be fair. I hear people bash Fox all the time like the rest of the media doesn't do the same thing. It's silly. Do you really think CNN doesn't do the same thing? I watched CBS go after Bush day and night like a 2 year old chasing a Pinata. I didn't even like Bush.

At this point the media as a whole is probably the greatest enemy we have to maintaining our Republic. They have become nothing more than mindless mouthpieces for the two political parties. We need to start demanding fairness and truth from them.
